2. 柔軟同理心 帶領電信轉型大計

「3年內,遠傳的5G用戶將達到350萬戶!」今年七月,遠傳電信5G開台記者會上,遠傳電信總經理井琪身著俐落白色套裝,霸氣地對鏡頭喊出目標,遠傳現有的700萬4G用戶,將有半數在三年內投向5G懷抱。


“We will reach 3.5 million 5G subscribers in 3 years!” Ching Chee, General Manager of Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) announced ambitiously in the 5G press conference back in July. She is confident that half of its 7-million 4G subscribers will switch to 5G in three years.subscribers will switch to 5G in three years.

 

今年年初,她在長達27天的5G頻譜競標攻防戰後,與遠傳團隊成功地以406億元的價格,標得被稱為「頂級魚肚」的夢幻旗艦頻譜,而今再度以當仁不讓的氣勢、端出多項5G殺手級應用,讓業界對這位身材嬌小、行事卻相當果敢的女總座留下深刻印象。

After the 27-day long 5G auction, Ching successfully led the Far EasTone and secured the dreaming spectrums, 80MHz of 3.5GHz band for TWD 40.6 billion early this year. She later astonishes the industry again with her decisive and ambitious characteristics by launching several innovative 5G killer applications ahead of the competition.



井琪是資深電信老將,自台大國貿系畢業後便出國深造,在美國最大電信公司AT&T工作了二十三年,從網路管理系統工程師一路升到技術發展部門副總裁,並曾獲得「美國亞裔50傑出企業家」殊榮,兩年前,應遠傳董事長徐旭東以及前任總經理李彬的邀請加入遠傳電信。據悉,美式作風、快人快語的井琪,站在職涯轉換關鍵點上也同樣明快,只花了不到兩個禮拜便決定加入遠傳。

Ching is a veteran in the telecommunication industry. She studied abroad after graduating from Taiwan University studying international business and then worked in AT&T, the biggest telecom in the United States for 23 years. She worked her way from a network management system engineer to the vice president of the technology development department and was once recognized as the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans by the Asian American Business Development Center. Ching establishes a decisive and confident personality during her days in the United States. When Douglas Tong Hsu, Chairman of Far EasTone and the Yvonne Li, the former General Manager of Far EasTone offered Ching the job opportunity two years ago, it didn’t take her too much time contemplating at the career crossroads and accepted the offer in just two weeks.

「其實我從來沒想過會回台灣工作,但機會來了,何不一試?」井琪說,當時,徐董不希望她被禁錮在技術的框架中,在敘職時大筆一揮,將技術長(Chief Of Technology)改成「轉型長(Chief Of Transformer)」。原來,隨著行動網路風行,傳統電信業者的傳統語音、簡訊服務營收逐年下滑,各國電信業者無不積極尋找轉型破口,遠傳也不例外,從徐董欽點的職稱,不難看出對她的深切期望。

 

 “Coming back to Taiwan for work was never in my plan. However, when the opportunity came, I told myself why not give it a try?” Ching reminds the time when she first joined Far EasTone. As mobile broadband becomes mainstream, the income from traditional telecom services, including calls and texts has gradually dropped over the year. Telecom service providers around the world have been looking for the breaking point for transformation. While offering the job opportunity to Ching, Chairman Hsu promised not to confine her in the traditional technology frame and even changed the position title from Chief of Technology to Chief of Transformer, expecting Ching could maximize her experiences in the States and bring a new atmosphere to Far EasTone.
